The Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index inched up further by 34basis points today. Participants remained bullish on banking stocks, though the recent rally on some of the companies was an incentive for profit seekers, subsequently curbing the gains of Zenith Bank, First Bank and Access Bank. Demand for UBA however continued to grow in spite of various sell offs during the session, as it closed with unfilled demand at the top price of the day, in the breweries sector, NB lost marginal points at the close of the day’s session, while Guinness recorded no change. International Breweries however recorded the lone gain in the sector, inching up with a 1.8 per cent mark-up. Sentiments remained skewed to the sell side on Nestle, though current price attracted some buyers during the session. Dangote Flour and Honeywell Flour also headed south, shedding 4.9 per cent apiece. On the other hand, Nascon and Flour Mills both rallied with gains of 5.0 per cent and 4.9 per cent respectively.
The banking sector was on the upbeat this week as participants took positions in anticipation of FY results, leading to a rally in the prices of all but three stocks in the sector. GTBank lost less than 1.0 per cent cumulatively, as demand hovered between N14.00 and N14.30, while Union Bank also lost 5.0 per cent this week. On the flip side, robust demand for UBA during daily sessions resulted in a 25.9 per cent gain this week, while First Bank and Skye Bank also moved up by 14.4 per cent and 13.0 per cent respectively. Profit taking trimmed off marginal points from Eterna Oil this week, while bearish sentiments also shaved off 8.3 per cent and 9.8 per cent cumulatively from Forte Oil and Conoil respectively. On the other hand, Oando rallied with a 9.6 per cent cumulative gain this week. The building materials sector however went fully to the bears this week, with Lafarge Wapco shedding over 7.0 per cent and closing the week at N40.80, its lowest price this year.
