Transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opened on Monday on a bearish note as the major equities recorded price losses. As a result of the losses, the market indicators depreciated by 0.37 per cent. The All-Share Index also lost 136.99 points to close at 36,789.30 as against the 36,926.29 posted on Friday.
Besides, the market capitalisation, which opened at N11.694 trillion lost N44 billion or 0.37 per cent to close at N11.650 trillion. Nestle topped the losers’ chart by N6 to close at N994 per share. Nigeria Breweries trailed with N2.70 to close at N160.30 per share, while Cadbury lost N1.57 to close at N54.53 per share. CAP dipped by 49k to close at N49, while Zenith Bank lost 40k to close at N20.30 per share.
On the other hand, Guinness led the gainers’ table by N3 to close at N255 per share. It was followed by FlourMill with a gain of N2.93 to close at N82.99, while Lafarge Wapco gained N1.20 to close at N96 per share. BetaGlass gained N1 to close at N11 per share, while Total appreciated by 99k to close at N159.99 per share.
In all, a total of 188.54 million shares worth N2.1 billion were traded in 4,085 deals. This is against the 591.64 million shares valued N3.5 billion traded in 5,086 deals on Friday. GTBank drove the turnover volume, accounting for 35.43 million shares worth N909.02 million. Transcorp came second on the activity chart with 24.12 million shares valued at N36.83 million, while Aiico accounted for 20.61 million shares worth N18.62 million.
