No fewer than 10,000 job seekers have applied for employment in the ongoing recruitment exercise into Oyo State health institutions. Alhaji Olaide Abass, Chairman of the state Hospital Management Board, disclosed this in Ibadan. He said that the recruitment of the medical staff was to fill the vacant positions in the state’s health institutions.

‘‘Over 10,000 applicants have applied for placement into the health sector in Oyo State in the current recruitment drive,’’ he said. The board chairman said that of the number of applicants, only 600 would be employed. Health workers needed in the state’s health institutions included doctors, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapist and ward maids.

‘‘The state needs 100 doctors, 200 nurses, 100 ward maids and other categories,’’ Abass said. The present recruitment exercise, he said, became necessary since the state’s health institutions were short of medical personnel. He, however, said that the pre-interview screening which took place last week was meant to ascertain if the applicants were currently certified by their respective professional bodies.
