The Senate has set up a seven-member ad-hoc committee to probes the non-completion of the $18.5 billion Abuja Centenary Economic City project 10 years after its commencement. This followed the adoption of a motion by the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Ashiru Yisa (APC – Kwara South) on the non-completion of the project. The motion had called for urgent need to revive and complete the stalled project so as to realise its potential.
In its resolution, the Senate directed the committee to review the original public-private partnership agreement on the project and recommend amendments, if necessary, to facilitate smooth and expeditious completion of the project within a defined timeframe. The Senate also urged the Federal Government to give priority to the revival of the project by providing appropriate support, resolving regulatory issues and addressing any other impediments.
