Weekly transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed on a positive note on Friday with the market indices appreciating by 0.47 per cent. The All-Share Index rose by 97.09 points or 0.47 per cent to close at 20,411.17 against the 20,314.08 recorded on Thursday. Also, the market capitalisation, which opened at N6.402 trillion, rose by N30 billion or 0.47 per cent to close at N6.432 trillion.
NewGold ETF recorded the highest price gain of N18 to close at N2, 668 per unit. Nigerian Breweries followed with a gain of N1.49 to close at N97.70 per share, while Oando grew by 87k to close at N18.35 per share. Lafarge Wapco rose by 77k to close at N44 per share, while Guinness gained 55k to close at N220.55 per share. On the other hand, Flour Mills led the losers’ chart, dropping N2.90 to close at N56 per share. Forte Oil followed with a loss of 57k to close at N11.01 per share, while Presco dipped by 45k to close at N8.55 per share. Berger Paints depreciated by 43k to close at N8.36 per share, while UBN lost 41k to close at N7.81 per share.
The banking sub-sector maintained its leadership position with 336.5 million shares worth N1.66 billion traded in 1,745 deals. UBA drove activities in the sub-sector with 163.04 million shares valued at N300.5 million exchanged in 285 deals. Zenith sold 52.8 million shares worth N648.2 million in 233 deals. The insurance sub-sector ranked second with 28.8 million shares worth N19.5 million exchanged in 93 deals. Equity Assurance was investors’ delight with a total of 20 million shares valued at N10 million traded in two deals.
Custodian and Allied Insurance followed with 2.9 million shares worth N4.7 million exchanged in 21 deals. In all, investors exchanged 411.9 million shares worth N2.4 billion in 3,008 deals against the 700.8 million shares worth N2.3 billion traded in 3,513 deals on Thursday.
