The Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index lost 39basis points today. Fidelity Bank with volumes in excess of 21.9million units exchanging hands topped the volume traded list, followed by Zenith Bank with 18.5million units. Access Bank as it has become the norm held steady around the N9.00 mark, with volumes in the range of 16.2m units traded. Diamond Bank shed marginal points to close at N4.80 while FCMB and Sterling Bank closed on a relatively flat note. GlaxoSmithKline for obvious reasons (i.e proposal by GSK to increase its ownership to 80 per cent with an offer of N48.00) continued trading around the N45.00 mark. Guinness and Nestle continued with their ascent to close at N261.00 and N700.06 respectively. Institutional interest and a dearth of supply volumes could further push them to higher levels in the coming week. Conversely profit taking took its toll on NB as it lost N9.73 to close at N144.30.
The NSE All-Share Index lost 102bps this week. The volume chart for the week was dominated by the financial services sector as UBA, Fidelity Bank, Diamond Bank, FBN Holding, & GTBank all traded cumulative volumes that were in excess of 55million units each. GTBank and Diamond Bank aside trading robust volumes managed to chalk up significant gains of 23.4 per cent and 4.8 per cent to close the week at N8.60 & N3.90, Institutional interest might however sustain GTBank albeit temporarily at levels above the N23.00 mark. Fringe players notably UTC, Okomu Oil, Livestock Feeds & Conoil closed the week on positive note with substantial uplifts; these stocks however might come under the market scalpel in the week ahead. Conversely the likes of DN Meyer, John Holt & Morison took up prominent spot on the losers chart..
