The Nigeria Stock Exchange All Share Index was up 121 basis points. Growing demand for banking stocks led to a further spike in prices. Guaranty, Zenith and UBA all closed on the up-tick with gains of 3.1 per cent, 1.3 per cent and 0.7 per cent while Skye Bank, Access and Fidelity Bank recorded gains of 2.4 per cent, 0.7 per cent and 0.3 per cent apiece. FBNH and Diamond Bank however lost 0.3 per cent and 1.5 per cent, though demand for both companies remained healthy and could prevent further slides.

The building materials sector also remained upbeat; Wapco, CCNN and Dangote Cement advanced with gains of 5.8 per cent, 2.3 per cent and 1.4 per cent on the back of an upward review of prices in response to a decline in available offers. Ashaka Cement reported the only loss of 2.6 per cent at the close of the session.

Nestle, Dangote Flour, Honeywell Flour, Dangote Sugar and Flourmills all closed on the up-tick today as the food and beverages sector was in line with market trend. Glutting offers on the other hand trimmed off 1.3 per cent from Cadbury.
