Nigerian government has given the nod for Air Peace to start operating direct flights to Brazil. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the federal government has designated Air Peace to commence direct flights to Brazil as soon as the airline provides an aircraft for the route. This development is part of the outcome of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In exchange, Brazilian carrier LATAM will operate cargo services between Nigeria and Brazil.
The minister revealed that the two presidents discussed several key issues, including the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Nigeria for the maintenance of Embraer aircraft in West and Central Africa. The Brazilian government has expressed readiness to approve LATAM’s operations to Nigeria as soon as Air Peace secures a plane for the route. Air Peace has a firm order of 35 Embraer aircraft, with five already delivered to the airline. The airline is expected to commence direct flights to Brazil soon, marking a significant milestone in the aviation industry.
