Opening the week, the Lagos stock market extended its losing streak for the third consecutive session as the benchmark Index closed 2.08% weaker – the biggest single day decline in the month – to close at 53,750.77 points. The market’s weak performance was driven by selloffs in Index heavyweights, AIRTELAFRI (-8.31%), MTNN (-1.27%) and SEPLAT (-4.17%). Consequently, the ASI’s year-to-date (YTD) return fell to 4.88%, while the market capitalisation lost ₦621.99bn to close at ₦29.28trn.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled higher relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions up by 12.11%. A total of 100.88m shares valued at ₦4.34bn were exchanged in 3,279 deals. GTCO (-0.40%) led the volume chart with 12.84m units traded, while MTNN (-1.27%) led the value chart in deals worth ₦1.93bn.
Market breadth closed negative at a 3.75-to-1 ratio with declining issues outnumbering advancing ones. UNITYBNK (-9.43%) topped fourteen (14) others on the laggard’s table, while COURTVILLE (+6.67%) led three (3) others on the leader’s table.
