NGX All-Share Index ends the week strong, up 0.27% w/w

Ending an almost perfect week, Nigerian equities closed the day 0.08% stronger, bringing the All-Share Index to settle at 71,419.87 points. The market was buoyed today by gains in Tier 1 banking names,  ZENITHBANK (+2.79%),  GTCO (+0.26%), and ACCESSCORP (+0.28%). Having gained in four (4) of five (5) trading sessions this week, the ASI closed 0.27% higher w/w. 

Over the course of the week, strong performances across AIRTELAFRI (+0.56% w/w), SEPLAT (+10.00% w/w) and ZENITHBANK (+0.86% w/w) outweighed the selloffs in DANGCEM (-2.44% w/w), BUAFOODS (-1.92% w/w) and STANBIC (-4.54% w/w). Consequently, the year-to-date (YTD) return rose to 39.35%, while the market capitalisation shed ₦90.37tn w/w to close at ₦39.08trn.

Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled lower relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions down by 0.17%. A total of 361.12m shares valued at ₦10.23bn were exchanged in 5,640 deals. UNIVINSURE (+8.00%) led the volume chart with 44.08m units traded while DANGCEM (+0.00%) led the value chart in deals worth ₦5.29bn.

Market breadth closed positive at a 1.48-to-1 ratio with advancing issues outnumbering declining ones. UNITYBNK (+10.00%) topped thirty-six (36) others on the leader’s table while SUNUASSUR (-10.00%) led twenty-four (24) others on the laggard’s log.
