NGX All-Share Index ends the week negative, down 0.42% w/w

In the last trading session of the week, the domestic bourse extended losses as the All-Share Index declined by 0.27% to close at 66,915.41 points. Bearish sentiments in ZENITHBANK (-0.30%), GEREGU (-7.22%) and GTCO (-0.56%) were the sole drivers of the market plunge. Having lost in three (3) of five (5) trading sessions this week, the ASI closed 0.42% lower w/w.
Over the course of the week, MTNN (-0.20% w/w), NESTLE (-0.49% w/w) and GEREGU (-7.22% w/w)  were the major drivers of the week’s loss outweighing gains in ZENITHBANK (+3.28% w/w), GTCO (+2.31% w/w), and ACCESSCORP (+3.79% w/w). As a result, the ASI year-to-date (YTD) return fell to 30.56%, while the market capitalisation shed ₦156.34bn w/w to close at ₦36.76trn.
Analysis of today’s market activities showed trade turnover settled higher relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions up by 42.32%. A total of 205.89m shares valued at ₦6.38bn were exchanged in 4,986 deals.  FIDELITY (-0.61%) led the volume chart with 28.13m units traded, while GEREGU (-7.22%) led the value chart in deals worth ₦3.20bn.
Market breadth closed negative at a 1.78-to-1 ratio with declining issues outnumbering advancing ones. CADBURY (-10.00%) topped fifteen (15) others on the laggard’s table, while AIICO (+4.48%) led eight  (8) others on the leader’s table.
