The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) said it had resolved 34 complaints arising from disputes over delayed or non-settlement of genuine insurance claims in the first half of 2015. This is contained in a statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs of the commission, Mr Rasaaq Salami, on Monday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the value of the resolved complaints paid to the various complainants amounts to N539.760 million. It explained that during the period, NAICOM received 147 complaints from policy holders, beneficiaries or their representatives. It explained that most of the complaints were at the advanced stages of being resolved by the commission.
“ The commission employs a civil process of resolving these disputes and complaints through correspondences and mediation meetings between all stakeholders,’’ it said.
It recalled that the Complaint Bureau Unit of the commission was established in line with extant laws to process and resolve complaints. It said the complaints handled were those received from aggrieved insurance consumers and beneficiaries on all facets of insurance business in Nigeria.
