MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by 50 per cent from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in move to attract customers. The pay tv has been facing dwindling subscribers as many have decline using the pay tv due to high cost. Beside, Multichoice has been having a running battle with Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission over violation of customers’ right. The company announced the move in a statement. John Ugbe, its Chief Executive Officer, said the offer was in response to the noticeable economic impact on the everyday lives of Nigerians. He said the discount was part of its new “We Got You” campaign aimed at boosting subscriber numbers and easing economic pressure on households.
“We want to ensure our customers feel appreciated and have access to the best entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is about making premium content more accessible and showing that DStv offers something for everyone, not just football fans.” By repositioning itself as a platform for daily value, DStv aims to encourage content discovery across a wider array of genres, including movies, drama, kids’ programming, and news.
“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” he said. The company is also offering a free upgrade to the next DStv package tier to customers when they pay for their current plan in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025 as a promotional offer.
It stressed that the price slash and the free upgrade initiative were in response to the noticeable economic impact on the everyday lives of Nigerians. Meanwhile, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is to arraign Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Chairman of MultiChoice Nigeria and John Ugbe, it Managing Director, for breaching the FECPC Protection Act, 2018.
