Residents of Lagos State took to the streets on Monday, February 26, 2024, to protest against the prevailing hardship in the country, with the demonstration organised by the ‘Take It Back Movement’, a human rights group. Carrying placards bearing various grievances, the #EndHungerProtest protesters gathered at the Ojuelegba Under Bridge area of the state to express their discontent. This protest precedes the planned mass protest scheduled for February 27 and 28 by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, has raised alarm over alleged government plans to incite violence against NLC members ahead of the planned nationwide strike scheduled for Tuesday, February 27.
However Civil Society Organisation CSOs staged a Protest in Lagos over high cost of living. Despite warnings on Sunday by the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade of holding any planned protests, police officers were seen at the protest grounds providing security. Videos on social media showed protesters under a human rights group identified as the “Take It Back Movement” carrying placards with various inscriptions in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State.
