Guinness Nigeria Plc changes date of AGM, dividend payment as Bulls extend dominance

In the disclosure, Final Dividend of N0.46k per 50k ordinary share will now be paid on 27th October 2021 (Previously; 20th October 2021). Also, the AGM has been postponed to Tuesday, 26th October 2021 (from 19th October 2021). Today, buying interest in FBNH (+2.8%), WAPCO (+2.5%), and GTCO (+8.2%) buoyed gains of 38bps on the local bourse – pushing the benchmark index above the 41,000 points mark for the first time since 15th of January 2021. Accordingly, the All-Share Index advanced to 41,051.19 points while market capitalisation gained ₦80.4bn to reach ₦21.3tn. Meanwhile, YTD return also improved 30bps to settle at 1.6%. Trading activity weakened as volume and value traded fell 20.9% and 12.4% respectively to 446.2m units and ₦4.5bn. The most traded stocks by volume were FBNH (148.4m units), UNIVINSURE (46.2m units), and ETI (42.5m units) while FBNH (₦1.7bn), GTCO (₦923.0m), and ETI (₦316.1m) led by value.

Across the sectors under our coverage, performance was largely bullish as all indices gained save the AFR-ICT index which remained flat. Leading the gainers, the Banking index rose 1.4% due to price appreciation in FBNH (+2.8%), GTCO (+1.1%), and UBA (+3.1%). In the same vein, the Oil & Gas and Insurance indices advanced 0.5% and 0.4% respectively as investors took position in OANDO (+2.6%), AIICO (+1.1%), and CHIPLC (+9.1%). Similarly, the Consumer and Industrial Goods indices gained 0.4% and 0.1% sequentially on the back of price uptick in INTBREW (+2.2%), DANGSUGAR (+1.1%), and WAPCO (+2.5%).

Investor sentiment, as measured by market breadth (advance/decline ratio), strengthened to 2.2x from 2.0x as 29 stocks advanced against 13 declining stocks. TRANSCOHOT (+9.9%), CHAMPION (+9.9%), and CHIPLC (+9.1%) led the gainers while FTNCOCOA (-8.0%), ABCTRANS (-5.9%), and REGALINS (-5.0%) led the losers. We expect the bullish performance to be sustained in the next trading session, driven by improved investor sentiment in anticipation of Q3 earnings releases.
