The federal government of Nigeria has removed the Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Dr. Harold Demuren from office. This was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
According to Mr Sam Nwaobasi, Special Adviser on Media to the SGF: ” Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has approved the removal of Dr. Harold Olusegun Demuren from Office as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with effect from 12th March 2013.
“This is consequent to a careful consideration of Dr. Demuren=s unsatisfactory response to the numerous concerns of stakeholders in the Aviation Sector. Mr. President wishes him well in his future endeavours.” It will be recalled that the National Assembly’s Joint Committee on Aviation had earlier in the year recommended Demuren’s sack and prosecution over the role he played during the crash of a Dana aircraft in Lagos last June. The crash had resulted in the death of over 150 passengers and crew of the ill fated aircraft and another 10 persons on the ground. The aircraft had crashed into the densely populated Iju neighbourhood shortly after take off.
