DANGOTE Group has signed $150 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kano state government for the establishment of 100 megawatts Solar Power plant.
At a colourful ceremony with the Kano State Government, which was represented by the Secretary to the state Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji in his office, Dngote Group Executive Director, Engineer Mansur Ahmed said it was part of the company’s desire to uplift Kano economy.
Ahmed said “we want to strongly help in reinvigorating the state economy to what it was so many years back. This proposed plant will source its material from the environment, ” Ahmed said.
The Executive Director said that the project would be financed by Dangote Group and Black Rhino company, as he added that a sizeable land had already been acquired for the plant. Ahmed further stated that, the Plant, when established would work harmoniously with the host communities and would do well in their corporate social responsibility.
He reiterated that “community engagement plan will also be established so as to have a robust plant all in an effort to achieve our set objectives,” he explained.
Ahmed said that the Plant would be completed and fully operational within two years, as he assured that, the group will do everything within to ensure it achieves the desired objectives.
Earlier, in his remark, the SSG, Alhaji, assured government support at ensuring that the dream becomes a reality. Alhaji said the solar powered plant was crucial and important to the state, as he noted that “as a son of the soil (Dangote), his effort in this direction is not surprising, rather it was a step in the right direction.”
He noted that Kano state government is keen on the Solar Powered Energy Plant project, emphasising that, “we are extending our thanks and gratitude to Dangote for this all-important investment.” Alhaji signed on behalf of the state government and Engineer Ahmed signed on behalf of Dangote. While Alhaji Isyaku Umar Tofa, Dan Adalan Kano, who is the Chairman of the Kano State Investment Promotion Agency, signed as a witness from the part of the government and Zakari Momodu, Corporate Strategy Specialist, from Dangote, signed as a witness from Dangote side.
