Today, the local bourse extended its gaining streak to close 1.0% higher to 45,890.52 points on the back of gains in DANGCEM (+5.5%), NGXGROUP (+6.3%), and ACCESS (+0.5%). Thus, YTD return improved to 7.4% while market capitalisation increased ₦248.0bn to ₦24.7tn. Volume and value traded surged by 245.3% and 253.4% respectively to 873.5m units and ₦31.5bn. DANGCEM (102.9m units), FBNH (54.0m units), and TRANSCORP (34.1m units) led by volume while DANGCEM (₦28.8bn), FBNH (₦648.0m), and SEPLAT (₦406.0m) led by value.
Across our coverage sectors, performance was uneven as 3 indices advanced, 2 declined while the AFR-ICT index closed flat. On the positive side, DANGCEM (+5.5%) drove the Industrial Goods index up 2.7% as it completed Tranche II of its share buyback programme. Trailing, the Insurance and Banking indices rose 0.5% and 0.4% respectively on account of buying interest in LINKASSURE (+7.6%), ACCESS (+0.5%), and UBA (+0.6%). Conversely, the Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas indices dipped 0.2% and 0.1% respectively due to sell pressure on DANGSUGAR (-2.7%), HONYFLOUR (-1.5%), and ARDOVA (-2.6%).
Investor sentiment, as measured by market breadth (advance/decline ratio), strengthened to 3.0x from 0.9x as 27 stocks gained and 9 lost. NNFM (+9.9%), LEARNAFRICA (+9.3%), and CADBURY (+8.0%) led gainers while DANGSUGAR (-2.7%), STANBIC (-2.7%), and ARDOVA (-2.6%) led decliners. In the final trading session, we anticipate mild profit-taking to dent the week’s bullish run.
