President Muhammadu Buhari has written the Senate, asking it to consider and approve the Nigerian Data Protection Bill. In a letter read yesterday during plenary by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, Buhari said, “Pursuant to section 58, sub section 2 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I forward here with the Nigerian Data Protection Bill for Consideration and approval of Senate”
According to the President, the Nigerian Data Protection Bill seeks to provide a legal frame work for the protection of personal information and establish the Nigerian Data Protection Commission for the regulation of laws on personal information.
In another letter read by Senate President Lawan, Buhari is seeking the Senate’s approval for reimbursement through issuance of a promissory note to Plateau and Borno states for the sum of N6.6 billion and N3.8 billion respectively. According to Buhari, the reimbursement would be for roads projects executed on behalf of Federal Government by the states governments.
In another letter read by Lawan, President Buhari said that in pursuant to section 10, sub section 3a of the CBN Act 2007, he has urged the Senate to approve the re- appointment of Abdul Abubakar as non Executive Director of CBN for a second and final term.
