Boeing to sell Air India more than 200 planes, Biden announces

by Business News Report

Air India will buy more than 200 Boeing aircraft, President Joe Biden announced Tuesday, in what the White House is calling a historic agreement between the two companies. Under the deal, Air India will buy 190 Boeing 737 MAXs, 20 Boeing 787s, and 10 Boeing 777Xs for a total of 220 firm orders valued at $34 billion at list price, the White House said. What’s more, the purchase will include customer options for an extra 50 Boeing 737 MAXs and 20 Boeing 787s, totalling 290 airplanes for a total of $45.9 billion at list price, according to the announcement.

“This purchase will support over one million American jobs across 44 states, and many will not require a four-year college degree. This announcement also reflects the strength of the U.S.-India economic partnership,” Biden said in a statement. The announcement follows the launch of the U.S.-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology in May 2022. The initiative is designed to expand technology and defence cooperation between American and Indian institutions. The order is Boeing’s third-biggest sale of all time in dollar value and second of all time in quantity, the White House said. MarketWatch
